On Friday we commemorated Sorry Day by reflecting on past policies of forced removal of children and the experiences of the survivors of the Stolen Generation. As we move into National Reconciliation Week and this year’s theme, ‘Be a Voice for Generations’, we also reflect on the resilience and contribution of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples to our society and culture. I urge all Australians to use their power, words and vote to create a better Australia for everyone.
The language of our school vision speaks of being inclusive, innovative and vibrant and where we have high expectations of each other. Coming out of Covid has seen us be able to be more inclusive and more vibrant, and I am very pleased that our school attendance continues to be above state and regional norms. Our kids enjoy coming to school (and so do I!) I would love for the high expectations that you and our teachers put on our students stretch to the winter uniform. Please have your child show how proud they are of being a member of APS by wearing correct school uniform (top AND bottom) every day.
Having said that, I look forward to showing off my best PJs on Thursday (the first day of winter) for “Oodies, Hoodies and Winter Woolies”, our Term 2 mufti day. Gold coin donation with money going to the P&C.
As mentioned previously we farewell Mr Chris Frangos today as he was successful in gaining a permanent teaching position at Wyrallah Rd PS under the Graduate Recruitment Program. We wish Chris the best of luck for his future career and thank him for his wonderful work in recent years. 3/4Lyrebirds are definitely going to miss him.
We also farewell Mrs Rachael McClymont who is stepping into the role of Relieving Principal of Cabbage Tree PS. This is very exciting for Rachael and is a testament to her drive and leadership at our school this year and last. Congratulations and best wishes to her. Mrs Sarah Christensen will move into the vacant Assistant Principal role.
Finally, a huge thank you to teachers Olivia King, Amy Gartside and Dave Hutchins for putting their lives on hold since Wednesday as they escorted students to the Year 6 camp at Burleigh Heads. A lack of sleep for sure, but also wonderful memories for all.
