Chess

Alstonville Public School has a chess club which meets weekly and caters for students of all experience levels. Chess sets are also freely available for casual games in the playground every day during recess and lunch. Chess is an event in the house championship, in 2022 Bugden won the boys' competition and Cawley won the girls. Every term we send teams to inter-school tournaments to play against other schools in the region. Last year we enjoyed great success on an individual and team level. Our 'A' team won the Northern Rivers Championship, the North Coast Championship and made it to the semi-finals of the NSW Country Championship. Ashlinn was the Northern Rivers 12 year old champion and  Amaya came 3rd. Finn was the 11 year old champion and Eamon came 2nd and Darcy 3rd in the 10 yo catergory.  Each year the school awards a medallion to our best chess player; in 2022 it was won by Loki.
