Huge congratulations to our Game Changer Challenge team, who last week won one of only three Design Awards presented to the 22 teams at the Grand Final in Sydney.
The Game Changer Challenge is the department’s award-winning design thinking competition.
Open to public schools across the state the challenge centres on discovering solutions for a real-world, wicked problem by applying classroom learning.
The 2023 wicked problem was:
“Invent or innovate something that will change our world and leave a lasting impact”.
Our team, made up of Kodi, Zac, Rawak, Mani and Kai, were one of over 600 teams to create a 90 second video detailing their response to the challenge. From these videos, 120 teams were selected to compete in Regional Finals, with only 24 teams then invited to Department of Education headquarters in Sydney, to compete in the Grand Final.
The boys' idea was to grow and harvest bamboo to create cheap, sustainable and environmentally friendly houses to help alleviate the housing crisis here in the Northern Rivers. Over a week in Sydney, in which they worked with industry professionals to fine-tune their idea, they pitched it to a collection of judges.
The boys were awarded one of only three Design Awards, recognising the impact and awareness their idea possessed. Well done, boys! You can't help but feeling the future is in good hands.
