Last week fourteen teams from across the state made their way to Ballina and Lismore for the NSWPSSA State Cricket Chamionship. 10 public school regions, 3 Catholic school representative sides and an independant schools team came together to see who was the best in the state.
For our first match we played the Combined Independent Schools (CIS) at Oakes Oval in Lismore. We ended up losing the game by 170 runs after being rolled for 56. The CIS team ended up winning the whole tournament so we weren't the only ones to come up short against them!
The loss didn't dampen our spirits and we approached our second game against North West confident of success. The match, played at Hill Park in Wollongabar, turned out to be a thriller, with us scraping over the line by 6 runs after North West lost 3 wickets in the last 4 overs.
Sydney West proved too strong for us, as did Mackillop, defeating us by 8 and 6 wickets respectively.
Even though we lost most of our matches, the spirit the game was played in was fantastic for a group who didn't know each other before the tournament. Overall, it was a great experience and a fantastic carnival.
